LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston firefighters recently got a chance to practice some crucial training at a vacant former office building.

Firefighters carried out a training exercise at 70 South Orange Avenue, which included drills that focused on victim removal from elevated positions, such as rooftops.

During the exercise, members reviewed and practiced procedures for victim stabilization, packaging, rigging and removal to the ground via a ladder truck.

“It’s always beneficial when our members can train under real-life conditions, such as at vacant properties,” Fire Chief Christopher Mullin said. “It adds a level of reality that you simply don't get in a classroom scenario.”

Mullin thanked Eastman Management Co. for providing access to the building prior to its scheduled demolition.
