Vote by Mail (Absentee) Ballot Request Deadline is Oct. 30

Out of town on Nov. 6? Don't feel like going to the polls? Simply vote by mail. Now there is no excuse not to vote!

If you're a registered voter in Essex County who is going to be out of the area on Election Day, Nov. 6, you can still vote by casting an absentee ballot.

To obtain an absentee ballot, you must submit an application to the county Election Board. The application can be downloaded here, or you can obtain a hard copy at your local municipal building. The application/request must be received by the Essex County Clerk on or before Oct. 30, 2012.

The actual ballot will be mailed to you, you must complete it and mail it back so that it is received by the Essex County Clerk's office no later than Nov. 5, 2012 at 3 p.m.

After Oct. 30, you can apply in person for a vote by mail ballot at:

Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

The deadline for applying in person is Nov. 5, 2012, at 3 p.m. The county clerk cannot accept faxed or e-mailed copies of the Vote by Mail Application, since an original signature is required.
