Livingston Op-Ed: 'We Care. We March. We Vote.'

A Livingston resident speaks about the Women's March taking place on Saturday, Jan. 20 in Morristown.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — The following op-ed comes courtesy of Laurie Beacham. Learn more about posting announcements or events to your local Patch site here.

Guess what fun thing I did last weekend? I joined fellow Livingstonians who also care about our country and our community and made signs for the upcoming Women’s March taking place this Saturday in Morristown. The event will mark one year since millions of concerned citizens took to the streets all over the world in the wake of the 2016 presidential election.

There will be Women’s Marches all over the country, but we Livingstonians are marching in Morristown because we care very much about our local communities, and because we understand that change happens at the grassroots level. Many of us are also laser focused on how our congressional representative, Rodney Frelinghuysen, has failed to represent us when it comes to gun safety, clean water, women’s health, transportation to New York, and – crucially – speaking out strongly against the ever more disturbing policy and vitriol coming out of our nation’s capital. Our new Governor, Phil Murphy, will be speaking at the event.
