West Essex Y Helps Families Get Healthy

West Essex Y will celebrate Healthy Kids Day on April 28, 2012.

Familiy-friendly sports, games and a visit from Captain America are some of the highlights for the West Essex Y's upcoming "Healthy Kids Day."

The free event will take place on April 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the .

Healthy Kids Day was designed by the YMCA to encourage kids and parents to commit to keeping the body and mind active this summer.  More than 500,000 parents and kids are expected to participate in one of the 1,900 events countrywide events.

According to John Kane, Youth and Teen Director of the West Essex Y, the Livingston based YMCA's event will include tug-of-war, relay races and a moon bounce/slide, along with healthy snacks, arts and crafts and face painting.  There will also be a fire truck and local vendors. 

The ultimate goal of the nation-wide event is to promote healthy living during the spring and summer, and "for familes to learn about health, and well being and have a good time," Kane said.
