Woman Arrested At Livingston Bank, Tried To Pass Phony Check: Police

A New York resident was caught with a fake driver's license after trying to pass a fraudulent check in North Jersey, police said.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston police arrested a New York resident after she allegedly tried to pass a phony check at a local bank last week, authorities announced Tuesday.

The Livingston Police Department released the following details about the arrest, which took place around 12:47 p.m. on Aug. 29:

“Livingston officers responded to the Columbia Bank located at 270 South Livingston Avenue after getting a report about a suspect attempting to pass a fraudulent check. Upon officers’ arrival, they located the suspect, Julie Welsh, 50, of Locke, New York. Welsh attempted to pass a fraudulent check using a fraudulent driver’s license. She was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters, where he was charged with forgery, falsifying a government document, possession of a false ID, identity theft, possession of fraudulent credit card and hindering apprehension.”

The charges against Welsh were placed on a warrant. She was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, police said.
