Woman Assaults Officer After Sister Nabbed For Shoplifting At Livingston Mall: Cops

Livingston police said a woman assaulted a loss prevention officer at Macy's after officers nabbed her younger sister for shoplifting.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — A woman was arrested for simple assault at the Livingston Mall on Sunday after she "assaulted the Macy’s loss prevention officers when they took her sister into custody," Livingston police said.

Police said that when they arrived around 4:26 p.m. on July 10, a loss prevention officer at Macy's had a 21-year-old Piscataway woman in custody. The woman had taken $200 in merchandise without paying, police said. She was charged with shoplifting.

Police said her 26-year-old sister had assaulted the loss prevention officer. Nada Fathy Aly, 26, of Piscataway, was charged with simple assault and obstruction and released on a summons, police said.

The previous week, on July 5 at 7:32 p.m., Livingston officers responded to Macy’s at the Livingston Mall on a report of a shoplifter running away from Macy’s loss prevention officers. Upon arrival, responding units located the suspected shoplifter on the property of the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, 200 South Orange Ave., and took her into custody.

Loss prevention officers identified the woman. Shakira Walston, 43, of Newark, had taken over $1,800 in merchandise, police said.

Walston was charged with shoplifting, failure to turn over a controlled dangerous substance to police, and was found to have three outstanding warrants, police said. She was brought to the Essex County Jail.
