1,000 Remain Without Power In Long Branch: JCP&L

Long Branch issued a Code Red. JCP&L doesn't have an estimate for when power will return as of noon Tuesday.

LONG BRANCH, NJ — Almost 1,000 Long Branch homes and businesses still lack power as of Tuesday morning. Jersey Central Power & Light hasn't estimated when electricity will return.

About 2,000 still didn't have electricity Tuesday morning in Long Branch. That number cut in half around noon, according to JCP&L. In Eatontown, 236 still don't have power.

That leaves 6.24 percent of Long Branch customers without electricity.

"We working very hard to get power back to all of our residents as quickly as possible," Mayor John Pallone said in a statement. "Our office is communicating with JCP&L and the Office of Emergency Management to ensure the safety of everyone in the City."

JCP&L is addressing life-safety issues, the City announced at about 11:30 a.m. They will continue to restore services once those are resolved.

The City offered the following guidelines:

  • For all other emergencies please call 9-1-1. If you are unable to report the downed line to JCP&L, contact 9-1-1.
  • JCP&L is offering free water and ice to customers without power. Customers can pick up water and ice at Shop Rite in West Long Branch at the corner of Route 36 and Monmouth Road.
  • Residents with portable generators please remember to never use a generator inside, even in an attached structure like a garage or barn.
  • Place generators at least 15 feet from your house. Make sure you have a long enough extension cord that’s in good condition.
  • Point the exhaust away from your home and any windows, doors or vents.
  • Never refuel a generator while it’s running.
  • Install carbon monoxide detectors powered by batteries or with a battery backup.
