A man and woman are accused of following a driver and then firing a gun in a road rage incident that began on Rt. 35 in Eatontown.

EATONTOWN, NJ — A Monmouth County man and woman are accused of following a driver and then shooting a man she called for help in a road rage incident that began on Rt. 35 in Eatontown, said acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey.

The road rage shooting happened Jan. 14, but Keyshawn Palmer, 29, of Freehold Township and Chyna Edwards, 22, of Tinton Falls, turned themselves into police custody on Tuesday of this week, said the prosecutor.

The conflict began shortly before 11 p.m. on Jan. 14, when the two cars were driving on Rt. 35 in Eatontown: A woman told police she inadvertently cut off a Nissan Sentra driven by Edwards, with Palmer in the passenger seat.

The woman said Edwards then followed her car south down 35 through several towns before colliding with her vehicle at the intersection of Wickapecko Drive and Sunset Avenue in Ocean Township.

The woman said she called a man, who arrived moments later, and from there an argument broke out between the four of them.

That's when police say Palmer, the male passenger, fired a handgun at the man, striking him in the leg. Palmer and Edwards then fled the scene. The woman called 911 and the man was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He survived being shot.

Police said Palmer and Edwards were identified as suspects in the case, and they turned themselves in without incident on Tuesday of this week.

A search of the Nissan Edwards was driving that night produced a .380-caliber handgun, said police.

Both she and Palmer are charged with first-degree attempted murder, conspiracy to commit attempted murder and weapons offenses. Palmer is additionally charged with fourth-degree illegal firearms possession, while Edwards is additionally charged with second-degree aggravated assault.

The man and woman are facing 10 to 20 years in state prison.
