Monmouth Medical Center Surgeon Michael Goldfarb, M.D., FACS, Named President-Elect of NJ-ACS

Michael A. Goldfarb, M.D., FACS, chairman and program director of the department of surgery at Monmouth Medical Center, a Barnabas Health facility, was recently named President-Elect of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (NJ-ACS). A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Goldfarb most recently served as vice-president.

Headquartered in Morristown, NJ, the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Surgeons consists of surgeons dedicated to advancing the highest standards of excellence in patient care, through the education of health professionals and the public, and by supporting research and surgical training programs in the state. It advocates at the state and national levels on behalf of surgeons and their patients.

Prior to taking on the role of chairman and program director of the department of surgery at Monmouth, Dr. Goldfarb was the associate program director for the surgical residency program at Monmouth Medical Center. He also serves as medical director of Monmouth's Cranmer Ambulatory Surgery Center and Surgical Coordinator of the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center at Monmouth. An attending surgeon at Monmouth Medical Center since 1974, he was also an Associate Professor of Surgery at Monmouth's former teaching affiliate, MCP Hahnemann University School of Medicine, Philadelphia and now Professor of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine.

In addition to his participation with the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Goldfarb is a founding member of the American Trauma Society and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. He is a member of the New Jersey Society of Surgeons, the Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and he serves on the Board of Trustees for Monmouth Medical Center.

Dr. Goldfarb received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York. He resides in Little Silver.
