With online submissions due Sept. 10 and exhibits running Oct. 9–Nov. 24, locals can help showcase both contemporary art and the stories of Italian families who shaped the city.
   

• Dozens Stung by Jellyfish at Jersey Shore Beaches Over Weekend (wdhafm.com) — Beachgoers in Long Branch and nearby Jersey Shore towns saw a spike in jellyfish stings last weekend, with lifeguards reporting painful but generally minor reactions. If you're heading into the water, they advise rinsing with ocean water and using sand to remove stinging cells, and checking with lifeguards about current conditions before swimming.
