Board Openings Announced at Monmouth Regional

A population shift in the sending districts gives Tinton Falls an extra seat and takes one away from Eatontown.

There will be four vacant seats up for grabs this spring on the l Board of Education in the annual school election.

According to the school's business administrator, Maria Parry, there is one three-year term for an Eatontown resident, two three-year terms for residents; and a one-year unexpired term for a Tinton Falls resident.

Candidates must file a nominating petition with the Monmouth Regional High School Business Administrator/Secretary to the Board of Education in order to get their name on the ballot for the annual school election. The current deadline to submit the nominating petition is 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17.

One of the open Tinton Falls seats was created by the due to a population shift in the borough. finds itself int the opposite camp and now has two incumbent board members from town, Linda Thatcher and John Carretta, but only one vacant seat.

The unexpired term for the Tinton Falls seat was created by the resignation from the board of member Tom Neff, which was temporarily filled by this summer.

The seat filled by Jon Cohen of Tinton Falls is also up for reelection this year.

Prospective school board candidates can obtain a “School Board Candidate Kit” online. Published by the New Jersey School Boards Association, the School Board Candidate Kit includes a nominating petition, information about legal qualifications for school board candidacy and the role of the school board member. Information about the New Jersey School Ethics Act and important dates in the school election process are also included in the kit.
