Calloway Steps Down As Monmouth Basketball Coach

Men's basketball coach announces his resignation.

Monmouth University men's basketball coach Dave Calloway has announced his resignation.

Monmouth University President Paul Gaffney announced Calloway's resignation on Sunday in a press release.

 “Today, I have accepted the resignation of Dave Calloway as our head men’s basketball coach effective at the end of his contract in June 2011,” Gaffney said in the release. “Starting immediately, the university will conduct a national search for a new coach."

Gaffney stated that Calloway has been offered a new role with Monmouth University advancement duties.

"His long-term interest in Monmouth and his strong connections to our community will serve him well in this new assignment," Gaffney said.

The Hawks ended the 2010-11 regular season with a 9-21 overall record and a 5-13 mark in the Northeast Conference.

Calloway spent five years as an assistant coach at Monmouth University and the past 14 years as head coach. Monmouth made its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance during Calloway's tenure as an assistant coach. Calloway led the Hawks to three bids in the NCAA Tournament, and a win in the 2006 tournament.
