LONG BRANCH, NJ — A fire broke out in a single-family home in Long Branch just before 3 p.m. Monday, according to the city's Public Safety Director Dominick Saldida.

The fire occurred in a home on the 400 block of Patten Avenue at about 2:40 p.m.

It is believed the fire started when a candle got knocked over, and the flames rapidly spread to the home's second floor. He said he could not say if Monday's high winds caused the flames to spread more rapidly, but did note that the fire was nearly entirely contained indoors.
