EATONTOWN, N.J. (May 13, 2016) – As many automotive dealerships remain open for sales on Memorial Day, Circle BMW, the region’s premier BMW dealership, elects to close its doors on this distinctive holiday in honor of the men and women who have served in the United States Military and fallen for our country. In addition to closing his business, Circle BMW Founder and President, Tom DeFelice, selects a military-related charitable organization and makes a donation for every vehicle sold during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

A long-time supporter of the U.S. Military and its veterans, DeFelice selected The Captain James M. Gurbisz Foundation, based in Eatontown, as the 2016 benefactor of this year’s charitable contribution. Circle BMW will make a donation of $50 to the James M. Gurbisz Foundation for every vehicle they sell on Saturday, May 28th and Tuesday, May 31st.

In the past, Circle BMW has made contributions to numerous military-related non-profits such as Wounded Warrior Project®, Hope for the Warriors®, Philip K. Dorn Detachment, Brendan Marrocco Road to Recovery Trust, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation and The Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II Memorial Fund.

“Honoring present and past members of our military, and their families, must always remain a priority as these men and women are serving to ensure our safety and freedom,” said DeFelice. “This year, The James M. Gurbisz Foundation will be the recipient of our Memorial Day donation. This is particularly sentimental because James grew up in Eatontown and his parents still reside here,” added DeFelice.

James Gurbisz graduated from Monmouth Regional High School. He was the captain of their football team, co-captain of the baseball team and student council president in his senior year. A 2002 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Gurbisz rose to the rank of Captain. While serving his country in Iraq, Captain Gurbisz was killed by a roadside bomb on November 4, 2005.

The James M. Gurbisz Foundation was established in 2006 by Gurbisz’s parents, Kenneth and Helen, both educators, who identified a need to assist at-risk middle school children in Eatontown. The goal of the Foundation is to show children that there are alternatives to drugs and gangs. In conjunction with Summer Program for Eatontown Area Kids (SPEAK), the Foundation sponsors an annual trip to a West Point football game, kayaking at Sandy Hook, trips to Hurricane Harbor at Great Adventure, Lakewood Blue Claws games and provides scholarships to sports and adventure camps. Each year, two boys and two girls attend the American Legion Boy’s State and Girl’s State respectively and two graduating seniors from Monmouth Regional High School are awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Foundation. Since the Foundation’s inception, more than 300 children have participated in these programs.
