Council passes bond ordinance for road improvements

Bath Avenue motorists may be enjoying a smoother ride after , but the city would like to see the entire road paved in a similar fashion.

The Long Branch Council passed a bond ordinance during Tuesday night's meeting that appropriates $407,000 for improvements to Bath Avenue from Sairs Avenue to the oceanfront.

The city just finished paving, curbing and sidewalk improvements from Sairs Avenue to Broadway.

Long Branch Business Administrator Howard Woolley said the city should go out to bid for the project in February or March. Woolley said the ideal timeline would have the work completed by Memorial Day

"We'd like to have the work completed by Memorial Day," Woolley said.

The Elberon railroad trestle near Lake Takanassee will also be fixed as a result of the bond ordinance.

The trestle sustained heavy damage during Hurricane Irene and from a heavy rain storm the week before the tropical storm hit New Jersey.

Woolley said NJ Transit informed the council that it is the city's responsibility to repair the trestle.
