Coming Home: Author Helen Pike Speaks to Students at Memorial School

Author Helen Pike spoke to honor students at Memorial Middle School in Eatontown about researching historical books and the need to write daily.

Seventh and eighth grade honor students at Eatontown’s Memorial Middle School were treated to a visit by author Helen Pike on May 17.  The students had delved into the author’s backstory and studied some of her work. Pike is a former student of the Memorial School and lifelong resident of Eatontown. She credits her past English teacher and current principal Ron Danielson with inspiring her to write.

She spoke with the students about the need to practice writing, how to begin researching a book and the need to double check sources. Pike has written several books on local history and most recently on the development of the music culture in Asbury Park (Asbury Park: Where Music Lives).  She donated one such book on the history of New Jersey to the school.
