Even the best drivers may find trouble this weekend.
Law enforcement throughout New Jersey will be conducting checkpoints and extra patrols to ensure the roads are safe and free of drunk drivers, and bad drivers.
There are numerous checkpoints and increased patrols planned in New Jersey, including:
- The Monmouth County DWI Task force will conduct DWI checkpoints will conduct a DWI checkpoint in Keyport to detect drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The checkpoint will run from 11 p.m. Friday through 3 a.m. Saturday on Route 36. Task force members and Keyport police will pull vehicles from the southbound lanes into the Stop & Shop parking lot to determine driver’s sobriety, according to Brielle Police Chief Michael W. Palmer, the task force coordinator.
- Law enforcement officials from Union will be cracking down on drunk drivers as part of the summertime “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. Through Labor Day, local law enforcement officials will conduct saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated, police said.
- Ocean County will be staging numerous checkpoints throughout Ocean County at undisclosed locations. The checkpoint program, which is funded in part by the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, is being conducted by local police agencies in conjunction with detectives from the Prosecutor’s Office and Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit.
- The Mahwah Police Department is participating in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which combines increased public education and high-visibility enforcement. Random patrols and driving while intoxicated checkpoints will be conducted in Mahwah.
- Law enforcement officers from Bloomfield will be cracking down on drunk drivers as part of the 2015 Labor Day Statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. Running through Sept. 7, local and state law enforcement officers will conduct sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols, looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated.
- The Mendham Township Police Department will set up driving-while-intoxicated checkpoints through Sept. 7.
- Parsippany-Troy Hills Township police will be adding extra patrols for a two-week crackdown on impaired drivers. The police department received a $5,000 grant and will be adding approximately 54 patrol hours between through Sept. 7.
- The Wyckoff Police Department has been awarded a $5,000 grant by the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, which will be utilized through Sept. 7 when police officers will be manning checkpoints or roving patrols for DWI enforcement.
- Holmdel, Woodbridge and New Brunswick will also participate in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign through Sept. 7.
