According to Center for Disease Control studies, more than 17.5 million adults and 7 million children in the United States have asthma. Additionally, more than 11.8 million adults suffer from Chronic Obstructive Disorder (COPD). In order to raise awareness of these two life-threatening respiratory disorders, Monmouth Medical Center will host an Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) Awareness Day on December 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Maysie Stroock Pavilion at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch.
Co-sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center and the American Lung Association, with a funding grant from Astra Zeneca, the free program will include information on the signs and symptoms of COPD and asthma and will cover topics such as COPD treatments, asthma treatments and the use of oxygen in the home. Attendees will hear from Laura Sanchez-Occhiuzzi, program specialist from the American Lung Association in New Jersey and Monmouth Medical Center doctors including, Madhu B. Paladugu, MD, internal medicine, medical director of cardiopulmonary rehab; Sharon M. Weiner, MD, pulmonary and internal medicine; and Robert L. Zanni, MD, pulmonary medicine.
