Hitchcock + Monty Python = 'The 39 Steps' at MRHS
The new production at Monmouth Regional premieres Thursday night

Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of merry mayhem and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced, hilarious whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! In this Drama Desk Award winner and two-time Tony Award winner, a cast of nine hilariously reenacts over 150 eccentric characters from Hitchcockʼs 1935 film thriller using just a few props, split-second quick changes, and plenty of theatrical ingenuity. Seeking a frivolous night out at the theatre, Richard Hannay is lured into a world of intrigue by a mysterious woman claiming to be a spy. When she winds up dead in his flat, he flees London with the police hot on his trail. This is a classic portrayal of one man’s flight from wrong accusation through a series of fast-paced misadventures, old-fashioned romance, and a night that promises nonstop laughter!
The 39 Steps features a versatile and stellar cast of Monmouth Regional’s finest performers including Tinton Falls, Eatontown, and Shrewsbury residents Nick D’Ambrosia, Danielle Gordon, Dana Clarke, Sayde Abrams, Michael Perez, Paolo Arceo, Andy Jean Louis, Ryan Baccarella, and Scott Stratton. The creative team for the NJ State Premier includes direction and scenic design by MRHS alum Anthony Greco, a 3 time Basie Award nominee for Best Direction, lighting and sound design by Basie Award winner Dave Ahlers, costume design by Perry Award and Basie Award nominee Jacquie Revier, prop design by Phoenix Productions’ regular Cindy Manning, the entire production is produced by Drama Club Advisor Jack Pensabene.
The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow, will open at the 600-seat Monmouth Regional High School Performing Arts Center, located at 1 Norman J Field Way Tinton Falls, on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. and will continue on Dec. 2 and 3 at 8 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the theater on the nights of the performances for $5.00 for seniors and students (with proper id) and $8 for adults. Support your local students in their pursuit of the performing arts cause you willnot want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
