International Day of the Girl

2018 theme: With Her: A Skilled GirlForce

October 11th has been marked as the International Day of the Girl. The day highlights the needs and challenges girls face, and promotes girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

Reports show that STEM occupations are growing at double the rate of other professions. GSUSA is committed to filling the STEM workforce pipeline. To make it happen, they’re launching the Girl Scout STEM Pledge—a multiyear initiative to put 2.5 million girls through their hands-on STEM programs by 2025.

The National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America recently confirmed a scheduled February 1, 2019 launch date for the program to serve girls, ages 11-17. This timing is intended to align with the programmatic timeline so that girls who join Cub Scouts in 2018 and will have earned their Arrow of Light are able to cross over to a troop to continue their Scouting journey.
