Long Branch 2019 Halloween Curfew, Safety Tips

LONG BRANCH, NJ — Some Halloween stories might keep you up at night, but Long Branch says you can't spend those hours trick-or-treating.

Long Branch will enforce a mandatory Halloween curfew for anyone 17 and under. The curfew runs 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1.

In that time, all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Anyone found violating the curfew will be taken to police headquarters until a parent or guardian can pick them up.

Police Chief Jason Roebuck provided these additional safety tips:

• travel with a parent or group of friends while trick-or-treating
• choose a costume that's bright enough to be seen and fits well
• make sure you can breathe clearly through masks
• carry a flashlight or glow stick
• never enter homes while trick-or-treating
• cross at crosswalks and never approach cars
• don't eat candy until a parent checks it first
