Long Branch Creates Charging Station As Residents Wait For Power

Nearly 2,000 in Long Branch still don't have power as of 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

LONG BRANCH, NJ — Long Branch established a charging station as part of the city may face a long wait for power to return. City officials will let residents use a charging station starting at noon Thursday between City Hall and the library.

Jersey Central Power & Light reported 1,837 remaining outages in Long Branch as of 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The company estimated restoration by 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, which would be a week after Tropical Storm Isaias passed through and caused mass outages.

"We have been working with representatives at JCP&L, who explained that this will likely be a multi-day event due to the magnitude and severity of the storm," said Mayor John Pallone.

JCP&L is offering free water and ice to those without service. Local pickup locations include ShopRite in West Long Branch.

To report an outage, call JCP&L at 1-888-544-4877 or text “out” to 544487. Call police at 732-222-1000 to report downed wires.
