Long Branch Man Abandoned His Dog In Holmdel Park, Police Say

A Long Branch man was criminally charged after police say he abandoned his 3-year-old Rottweiler in Holmdel Park last Thursday.

HOLMDEL, NJ — A Long Branch man was criminally charged after police say he abandoned his 3-year-old Rottweiler in Holmdel Park.

Tevon Gray, 29, of Long Branch was charged Tuesday with two disorderly persons offenses, one for abandoning a domesticated animal with no care and the second, failure to provide care for a domesticated animal.

Police say that at about 3 p.m. last Thursday, Oct. 13, Gray "willfully abandoned" his dog in the upper parking lot of Holmdel Park.

It was park rangers who found the dog running loose in the hilly, woodsy park. They were able to corral the dog, and turned it over to Holmdel Police.

The dog remains in the care of the Monmouth County SPCA.

The charges were filed by Officer Joseph Disko, the Holmdel Police Department's Humane Law Enforcement Officer and Monmouth County SPCA Chief Michael Goldfarb.

Gray is facing a fine of up to $1,000.
