Long Branch Police Warn Of Another Phone Scam
Long Branch PD received reports of a scammer saying they're soliciting donations to the police department.
LONG BRANCH, NJ — Long Branch police warned people Wednesday about a phone scam. A caller is telling people they're soliciting donations on the police department's behalf, police said.
Long Branch PD and the PBA request donations through mail. They will not ask for donations over the phone. Police said not to give any personal information over the phone to anyone asking for donations.
Police in Long Branch warned of a different scam in July. A phone scammer pretended to work for the Long Branch Police Department and demanded someone's personal information. The caller ID contained Long Branch PD's phone number (732-222-1000).

The male caller said someone used the victim's social security number and racked up $1.6 billion in debt in her name, police said. The caller demanded her personal info including her social security number, as well as banking, credit and gift-card account info. The victim provided no information and immediately called police.
