Long Branch Twins Convicted For Beating Disabled Veteran

FREEHOLD, N.J. — A jury found two Long Branch twins guilty Friday of assaulting and trying to rob a disabled Army veteran, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday. James Dotts and Jason Dotts face an extended term of confinement and up to 20 years in prison, the MCPO said.

The Dotts brothers return for sentencing May 31. Both brothers, along with another man, visited the Long Branch apartment of their neighbor, a 58-year-old disabled veteran, on Nov. 3, 2016, the MCPO said.

The victim was beaten unconscious and awoke bloodied and alone on the floor of his apartment, with his cell phone and cash gone, according to the MCPO. The veterans was hospitalized for several weeks for assault-related injuries, the MCPO said.

The Dotts brothers were found guilty of second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery and third-degree theft from a person, following a three-week trial, the MCPO said.
