Man Convicted Of Raping Co-Worker In Long Branch: MCPO

LONG BRANCH, N.J. — A jury convicted a man of rape in a Long Branch residence for developmentally disabled adults, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday. Mark F. Hailstork faces up to 10 years in prison when he returns for sentencing Sept. 20.

The survivor described the October 2015 rape at an apartment on Garrett Drive to the jury. Working as a nurse, she was scheduled for a double shift with two adults with disabilities with whom she was regularly assigned.

She explained that the aid was scheduled to work the second shift for her — the overnight shift — called out and Hailstork filled in for that shift. Hailstork, of Clementon in Camden County, was one of her supervisors.

The survivor told the jury Hailstork made sexual advances toward her throughout the overnight shift — 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. At around 6 a.m., she went into the bathroom to shower in order to get away from Hailstork. Instead, he entered the ladies' bathroom, dragged her out of the shower and raped her, the MCPO said.

After the sexual assault, she finished working her shift and went home. She reported the rape to Long Branch police the next afternoon.
