Man Stole Tip Jar From Long Branch Restaurant

LONG BRANCH, NJ — A man stole a tip jar from a Long Branch restaurant Thursday, police said. Authorities believe he stole it from the same restaurant last week.

Tyrese Moses was charged with obstruction and resisting arrest. Complaints of theft are pending the victim's response, police said.

Moses stole a tip jar with about $10 from the counter of King's Chef, police said. Long Branch police began canvassing the area.

A Long Branch officer was patrolling Cedar Avenue near the Glen Ellen Apartments when he saw someone who matched the description of the suspect. Cunha ordered Moses to stop, but he ran away.

After a short chase on foot, two officers caught Moses. He put up a "small struggle" but was arrested without further incident, according to Chief Jason Roebuck.

Another officer found the tip jar, but the money was gone. The jar was returned, but it's unknown what Moses did with the money.

"Due to the quick response of officers and timely transmission of information, Moses was quickly apprehended," Roebuck said. "A good team effort all around."
