2 Local Men Arrested In Long Branch October Shooting Spree

Two local men were charged with a shooting spree that took place over the course of three days in Long Branch last October:

LONG BRANCH, NJ — Two local men were arrested this week and criminally charged with a shooting spree that took place over the course of three days in Long Branch last fall, starting Oct. 8, 2022, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced Thursday.

Steven L. Worsley Jr., 30, of Eatontown and Ronald T. Gilliard, 30, of Long Branch are both charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree conspiracy to commit murder (meaning they planned and discussed the shootings beforehand) and illegal gun charges.

The prosecutor says they were behind this shooting spree that took place throughout Long Branch starting on Oct. 8, 2022, and which is connected the shooting at the West Long Branch QuickChek, where a man was shot outside the convenience store at 9:45 p.m.

Police say Worsley and Gilliard fired a gun into homes and a car on the 300 block of Waverly Place, where gunshell fragments were recovered. And they also fired a gun in the area of Rockwell Avenue and Halberton Place, where a house was struck by gunfire.

In total, three unidentified men were hit by the gunfire, and all three survived.

Worsley and Gilliard were apprehended separately without incident in Asbury Park and Neptune Township on Tuesday of this week. Initial Patch report on this incident: 4 People Shot In 4 Total Long Branch Shootings, All Connected (Oct. 2022)

The Monmouth County Prosecutor warned that more arrests are likely coming.

“These were not the first apprehensions made in connection with those efforts, and we firmly believe that they will not be the last," said the prosecutor.

Donte Gibson, 27, of Long Branch, was arrested in November and was charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder for the QuickChek shooting.
