Michellene Davis of Barnabas Health to Receive Newark Community Health Centers Distinguished Service Award

Award recognizes leaders and organizations that have made a significant contribution to Greater Essex County communities

Michellene Davis, Esq., Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Barnabas Health, has been selected to receive the 2015 Newark Community Health Centers (NCHC) Distinguished Service Award. This prestigious award recognizes leaders and organizations that have made a significant contribution to Greater Essex County communities.

“Ms. Davis is well deserving of this award as she provides tremendous leadership in the community and works zealously with NCHC to provide affordable quality healthcare in our modernized health centers in Newark,” said Pamela Clarke, PhD, MBA, President and Chief Executive officer, Newark Community Health Center.

In her role as Executive Vice President, Ms. Davis directs strategic policy decisions and enhances Barnabas Health’s position with state and federal elected officials and agencies. Ms. Davis oversees strategic messaging, community partnerships, external affairs, policy and government affairs, healthy living and community wellness. She is the first woman and first person of color to serve as an Executive Vice President in the system’s history.

Named to NJBIZ Magazine’s Health Care Power 50 list in 2015, and ranked by NJBIZ as New Jersey’s top lobbyist in the healthcare industry and by PolitickerNJ as one of the most politically powerful people in the State, Ms. Davis has been appointed to several high-ranking statewide political positions.

Ms. Davis began her legal career as a trial litigator, is an Honors graduate of Seton Hall University and holds a Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall School of Law.

Ms. Davis is passionately active in her civic community, and serves on a number of boards ranging from higher education institutions to statewide legal and executive women’s organizations.

NCHC’s modernized health center in Newark underwent a technology transformation including the implementation of electronic medical records. The larger facility can now accommodate more than 65,000 annual visits. The facility also increased the number of medical exam rooms and dental stations.

NCHC is the largest non-governmental provider of comprehensive primary care services in Essex County providing more than 137,933 patient visits annually. For more than 29 years, NCHC has provided quality healthcare to residents of Greater Essex County with a specific mission to provide services to those most in need in its communities – the uninsured and underinsured.
