Monmouth Clinches No. 2 Seed in NEC Tournament

Monmouth University women's basketball team will play at home against Quinnipiac on Saturday

The Monmouth University  women's basketball team capped off its still regular season with a victory on Tuesday night and clinched the second seed in the upcoming Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament. 

The 62-56 road victory over Quinnipiac solidified the Hawks' standing in the eight-team tournament which will begin on Saturday. The Hawks (21-8, 13-5 NEC) will host Quinnipiac (14-15, 11-7 NEC) which finished finished with the seventh seed in the NEC Tournament.

Monmouth's 21-win season is the team's highest victory total since the 1988-87 when the Hawks finished with 23.

Four Hawks scored in double digits on Tuesday night, with Alysha Womack leading the way with 17 points. Erin Rooney and Abby Martin each scored 14 points and Alexis Canady added 10 points. 

Monmouth split the season series with the Bobcats, and will now look to take the rubber game on Saturday.
