MRHS Board of Ed Meeting: New Board Members and Upcoming Holocaust Exhibit

Tinton Falls resident Ellen Scurry was sworn in as a new board member and the details of the upcoming Holocaust Exhibit were discussed.

The Monmouth Regional High School Board of Education met for their regular meeting on Tuesday in the school library. The meeting began with the swearing in of the board’s newest member.

“I was looking for a way to become more involved with the school and when this position became available it seemed the perfect opportunity,” said Ellen Scurry, who fills the position vacated by Thomas Neff and has a daughter who will be a senior at the high school this year. Scurry, whose term expires in April, is a retired Navy nurse and had lived in Tinton Falls for 10 years.

The board also discussed an upcoming Holocaust exhibit that will be displayed in the school’s library in October.

“This is a big honor for Monmouth Regional as we are the only high school chosen to host this exhibit,” said Maria Parry, board secretary and business administrator for the high school.

The exhibit originates from Kean University and will be held at Monmouth Regional from Oct. 3-28. The exhibit will be open to the public during the school day by appointment only. There will be an open house on Oct. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. and a presentation on the Sept. 11 attacks.  Parry suggested that the local middle schools be invited to bring their eighth grade classes to view the exhibit as part of their Holocaust education program.
