Neptune Resident Veronica Miller Honored by Assembly Members and Local Officials

Miller was honored for her distinguished service in the United State Army by Assembly Members Houghtaling & Downey

OCEAN TWP -- Neptune Township resident Veronica Miller was honored by local officials for her distinguished Army service and commitment to her local community at an event Friday night hosted by Assembly Members Eric Houghtaling and Joann Downey. Houghtaling and Downey awarded Miller with a Resolution from the New Jersey Legislature, and Neptune Committeeman Kevin McMillan presented a proclamation on behalf of the Neptune Township Committee.

Miller is a lifelong resident of the Asbury Park-Neptune area, and served for 22 years in the United States Army, retiring in 2011 as a Staff Sergeant. She served two tours of duty in Saudi Arabia and Iraq, and is the newly-elected Commander of the Disabled Veterans of Fort Monmouth Chapter 29, the first woman to hold the post. In March, Miller was honored at the State House in Trenton during a Women’s History Month celebration.

“Veronica is an incredible role model and leader in her community, and we are so happy to be able to honor her in this way,” said Downey (D-Monmouth), “Not just during Women’s History Month but year round we should be celebrating the incredible women here in Monmouth County.”

The event was also attended by Ocean Township Mayor Chris Siciliano, Neptune Commiteeman Robert Lane, Committeewoman Carol Rizzo, and Commander E. Michael Derrik and Auxiliary President Rosanne Gunter of American Legion 226, of which Miller is a lifetime member.
