New Jersey Martial Artists Bring Home Victory for USA

The USA Karate Team from NJ traveled to Puerto Rico to compete in the 20th Annual International Best of the Best Karate Tournament.

On February 22, 2015 the 21-member USA Karate Team from Master GJ Torres Black Dragons Dojo of Eatontown and Red Bank competed in the 20th Annual International Best of the Best Karate Torneo de Campeones (Tournament of Champions) at the Hector Solá Bezares Coliseum in Caguas, Puerto Rico.

The team, which included 15 students aged 18 and under trained by Master GJ Torres, Shihan Melissa Jaggers and Sensei Myry Miron, competed against martial artists from throughout the Americas. In the end, the USA Karate Team emerged victorious with a total of 32 medals – 12 Bronze, 9 Silver and 11 Gold – as well as being able to boast two tournament Grand Champions in their divisions.

“Our competitors trained very hard for this event and it was evident by their numerous victories,” said Master Torres. “They represented their country with great pride and dignity along with superior skills. I am very proud of each and every one of them.”
