The Lakewood Blue Claws held auditions for the national anthem at the Monmouth Mall on Wednesday night.
The food court at Monmouth Mall rang with patriotism on Wednesday night as the Lakewood Blue Claws held auditions for pre-game national anthem performers for their upcoming season.
Dozens of people waited patiently in line to sing their hearts out in front of the three judges, all staff members of the minor league baseball team.
One after the other, applicants climbed the scales of the national anthem to the applause of the crowd that had gathered to watch.

Toms River resident Jessica Weltman, 8, who was trying out for the first time, said she found the experience thrilling. “It was nerve wracking for me,” said her mother Andrea, who seemed glad the ordeal was over.
Paige Sidwa, 10, of Forked River, wowed the crowd with her performance and gave the air of an old pro. She has previously sung the anthem for the Cole Bros. Circus in 2010.

Following on her heels was 13-year-old Dimitrius Walton, who sang with a great deal of power, cheered on by his extended family. The Manchester resident frequently sings in church and at his school.
Radio station 94.3 The Point provided the sound system for the auditions. Promotional staff Nick Sgroi and Rachael Rittweger from The Point explained that the radio station partners with the Blue Claws and has a presence at most of the games.
