Philly Pretzel Factory Puts a Twist on Breast Cancer Awareness

The Eatontown shop will donate 50 percent of proceeds from specially shaped ribbon pretzels to the Susan G. Komen Foundation throughout October.

The on Route 35 gives its fans another reason to load up on its soft treats this October other than tailgates, fundraisers or after school snacks.

Throughout the month, the Eatontown shop, located at 86 Route 35 next to , will donate 50 percent of the proceeds from ribbon-shaped hot pretzels to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to promote breast cancer awareness.

Customers who purchase the $1 pretzel will receive a paper pink ribbon that they can sign and place on the Philly Pretzel Factory's "Wall of Fame."

"It all comes back to the community," said owner Matt Hopkins, who opened his doors five years ago. "Ultimately, it's something that affects everyone."

"We all have mothers," said the Moorestown resident, adding that he also has a wife, young daughter and a sister with six daughters.

Last year during the breast cancer awareness month campaign, Philly Pretzel Factory raised over $20,000. The goal is to be able to donate at least $40,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation this year, according to a release.

“Breast cancer is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers today and we feel a profound sense of responsibility to support causes that are so close to our franchisee’s and staff’s hearts,” said Dan DiZio, CEO and Founder of Philly Pretzel Factory.  “To us, there’s a reason why National Pretzel Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month are the same month.”
