Ranney School Ushers in Fall During Annual Homecoming and Fall Festival

Boys' soccer defeats Saddle River Day School

welcomed the first day of fall with an annual Homecoming Celebration on Friday, September 23rd and Fall Festival on Saturday, September 24th.

Parents, alumni, faculty and friends kicked off the school’s annual Homecoming and Fall Festival weekend with a Welcome Back Cocktail Reception hosted by Head of School Lawrence S. Sykoff, Ed.D. and the school’s Board of Trustees in RSPA Panther Hall. Approximately 200 attendees celebrated an “Installation of Leadership” throughout the evening as they formally recognized the school’s new Board of Trustees President Jamie Price (father of Madison ’13) and Ranney School Parents’ Association President Mimi Keenan (mother of Conor ’13 and Shane ’17).

A cherished tradition, Fall Festival began early Saturday morning as Ranney’s youngest athletes took to the gym for Panther Cubs’ soccer and tennis. Several older athletes, meanwhile, headed to the Karagianakis Field for varsity games against Saddle River Day School and The Academy of St. Elizabeth.

Possibly the most exciting game of the day came from the varsity boys’ soccer team, which secured a crucial win over Saddle River Day School following a last-minute goal scored by Alexander Karagianakis ’12 in double overtime. Goalie Madison Price ’13 obtained his second shutout of the season as he recorded 10 saves between the posts as well.

Results included: Varsity boys’ soccer vs. Saddle River Day School - Win, 1-0; Varsity girls’ soccer vs. Saddle River Day School - Loss, 4-3; Varsity field hockey vs. The Academy of St. Elizabeth - Win, 4-2.

When not demonstrating their Panther Pride on the bleachers or Karagianakis field, all could be found enjoying the sights and sounds of Fall Festival near the front lawn. As the RSPA’s premiere fall community event each year, Ranney’s 2011 Fall Festival offered activities for children of all ages including horse and carriage rides, a petting zoo, inflatables, a DJ with “Ranney Idol” karaoke, pumpkin decorating, arts and crafts, carnival events and lots of food. “What a fabulous day Saturday turned out to be!” said RSPA President Mimi Keenan. “We had a campus full of smiling children and happy families who had a wonderful time at this well-loved event.”
