Reading Garden Dedicated to Long-Time Eatontown Principal [VIDEO]

An overgrown courtyard was transformed into outdoor classroom space, in honor of Paul Desmond, and with the help of the folks at Eatontown Lowe's.

The staff at in transformed an overgrown courtyard into a reading garden, with the help from , and dedicated it to a former long-time principal.

Teachers and administrators gathered in the courtyard on Dec. 22, on a unusually warm afternoon, to dedicate the garden to Paul Desmond, who was principal at the school for 28 years.

"He deserves it," said current principal, Valerie Cioffi, "we wanted to honor him permanantly."

According to Lowe's Store Manager Ismet Ekin, the store chooses projects each year within the community to donate time and money towards. Most of the work done in the school's courtyard was by store employees who donate their time off for the job.

Ekin said that next year's project will consist of building a greehouse at the school.
