WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Route 36 is still experiencing closures on Monday morning after a car knocked a utility pole onto the highway on Sunday, officials said.

As of 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, Route 36 opened westbound with restricted lanes eastbound between Route 71 and Broadway. Route 36 and Broadway intersection will be closed until further notice, according to West Long Branch Emergency Management Coordinator Steven Cioffi.

“It is strongly suggested that you use alternate routes rather than in this immediate area,” Cioffi said.

Utility companies from both Jersey Central Power and Light and Verizon are on location working on the utility repairs. Detours have been put in place by local and state police, assisted by the state department of transportation, Cioffi added.
