Supervisor In Eatontown Stole $175K In Payroll: Prosecutor
The man cashed $175K in checks for seasonal employees who weren't actually working at the times he specified, authorities said.
EATONTOWN, NJ — A Willingboro man faces charges after stealing more than $175,000 in payroll checks from his Eatontown employer, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
Edwin Montanez cashed checks for seasonal employees who weren't actually working at the times he specified and then depositing them into his bank account, the MCPO said Wednesday.
Montanez, of Willingboro, worked as a supervisor at Hanro of Switzerland, with an office in Eatontown. Montanez clocked in employees when they weren't working and deposited their checks into his account from July 31, 2012 through June 15, 2018, the MCPO said.

He deposited 345 separate checks worth $178,058, the MCPO said. The 62-year-old was charged with second-degree theft of movable property. If convicted, he faces a sentence of five to 10 years in prison.
