Tinton Falls' Craig Slater Rows Ranney to Milestone Victory
The Ranney junior earned a silver medal at the SRAA Regatta and brought the school its first national rowing title.

Ranney junior Craig Slater of Tinton Falls brought the school its first national title this spring when he place second at the SRAA Regatta on May 28, according to the school.
In third place with 250 meters to go before the finish line, Slater rowed faster. As thousands of spectators on the waterside and in the grandstands roared with excitement, he managed to pass his top-seeded competitor by one boat length to earn a silver medal, according to a release. Ranney’s first-ever national title, Slater's second place finish marked a milestone in the history of Ranney’s crew program.
Due to his success this season, Slater was also one of approximately 36 rowers and six coxswains invited to attend the US Rowing Junior Men’s National Team Sweep Selection Camp beginning June 14 in Kent, CT. With help from five highly respected crew coaches, the goal of Sweep Selection Camp is to find the best 18 oarsmen and two coxswains who will represent the United States at the Junior World Championships in Eton, UK from Aug. 4t through Aug. 7.
