Unique Judaic Music Group to Perform at Monmouth
The Klezmatics, a famed Judaic inspired music group, will be performing and doing a Q and A at Monmouth University on Sunday, April 10 at 3 p.m.

This weekend, Monmouth University will continue their unique “South-Central Eastern Europe: Legacies and Identities Project,” with a performance by the Grammy-winning group, the Klezmatics.
The Klezmatics perform a style of music known as klezmer, which originated in Eastern Europe and has strong roots in Judaism. Klezmer music has a great deal of horns being played, but includes a mixture of latin sounds and jazz influence as well.
According to the group’s website, www.klezmatics.com, ever since they were founded in 1986, the group has performed with a myriad of well-known individuals. Some of these famed singers include Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Ben Folds and Natalie Merchant. They have also performed with many fames Judaic musicians, including Chava Alberstein, Ehud Banai and Itzhak Perlman.

Throughout their illustrious career, the group has performed on Late Night with David Letterman, NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion and on BBC’s Rhythms of the World. They have also played all over the world, in venues like London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, Central Park’s Summerstage, and New York City’s Carnegie Hall.
In 2006, the group took home the Grammy Award for the Best Contemporary World Music Album. This album is special in particular as the lyrics for the album were written by one of the most famous singer-songwriters in American history, Woodie Guthrie.

What is interesting about this concert, which will be held on Sunday, April 10 at 3 p.m., is that there will be a brief question and answer period following the show for anyone who wishes to speak with the group.
This is the last part of the school’s Eastern Europe project. Previous events held in the program include an art exhibit from Bogdan Achimescu, a presentation of the Academy Award winning film, “The Lives of Others,” and a dance performance by the influential dance troupe, the Tamburitzans.
