VIDEO: Monmouth County Teachers Hold 'Grade-In' at Monmouth Mall
The Monmouth County Education Association held a 'Grade-in' at the Monmouth Mall to show that teachers work many hours after school grading papers and helping students.

Teachers from all over Monmouth County came to Monmouth Mall in Eatontown to hold a ‘grade-in’ on April 12. In an effort to allow the general public to see that a teacher’s day doesn’t end with the last school bell, teachers pulled up a chair in the food court and got to down to grading their students' work.
The Monmouth County Education Association planned the event to demonstrate the amount of work that teachers put in on their own time. A similar event was held simultaneously at Freehold Raceway Mall.
Cristen Gallin, a special education teacher from Monmouth Regional High School, pointed out that teachers not only spend a lot of time grading students' work, but also helping with extracurricular activities after school and on their own time.

Monmouth Regional Latin teacher Marc Denny said, “When times are bad, people scrutinize where the state’s money is going and see teachers, who appear to stop working at the end of the school day. This ‘grade-in’ will hopefully let the public see that we have a lot of work that gets done after school hours.”
Teachers from elementary school to high school participated in the event, hoping to create a visual reminder to shoppers at the Monmouth Mall that teachers' work continues long after the students go home.
