West Long Branch Police Foil Burglary Attempt

Police use electronic surveillance to catch burglar

The West Long Branch Police nabbed a burglar early Friday morning who broke into a local business.

On Friday morning, at approximately 7 a.m., police arrested William Patterson 50, of West Long Branch and charged him with burglary, possession of burglar tools and resisting arrest by flight, according to West Long Branch Police Detective William Lynch.

"Following a number of commercial burglaries reported to the West Long Branch Police, the detective Bureau identified a pattern and came up with a short list of suspects," Det. Lynch said. "The detective bureau, using electronic surveillance, monitored the area."

Police say they are not able to release information on what specific electronic surveillance method was used to aid in the arrest.

On Friday morning the surveillance equipment captured the break in of a business on Wall Street in West Long Branch.

Sgt. James Gomez and Sgt. Paul Habermann arrived on the scene and saw Patterson flee from inside the building.

"After a brief foot chase Patterson was taken into custody by Sgt. Gomez," Det. Lynch said.

Patterson's bail was set at $50,000.00 and he was lodged at the Monmouth County Jail.
