Woman Indicted in Theft of $40K From West Long Branch Church

Theresa Nichols is accused of stealing more than $40,000 by writing fraudulent checks

A Toms River woman has been indicted by a Monmouth County grand jury on charges she stole more than $40,000 from a church in West Long Branch in 2012.

Theresa Nichols, 40, of Pine Tree Drive, was indicted on charges of forgery, uttering a forged instrument and theft by deception.

She is accused of writing checks against the bank account of St. Jerome Catholic Church in West Long Branch and then cashing them at a TD Bank branch as well as at Community Check Cashing, Friendly Check Cashing and United Check Cashing, between April 2012 and October 2012. The checks were cashed in Toms River, Point Pleasant Beach and Berkeley, and totaled $40,333, according to the indictment.
