Aiming for History: Central's Sloan Nets 100th Career LAX Point

Junior still has more than a season to play in prolific high school career.

Cooper Sloan plays lacrosse like he’s got somewhere to go.

Apparently that place is the record books.

Sloan, a junior at West Morris Central, is a prolific scorer for the Wolfpack varsity lacrosse team, where’s he’s been playing since his freshman year.

But Sloan just hit a milestone seldom do, notching his 100th point Thursday against Morristown Beard in the Morris County Tournament quarterfinal game. Sloan scored a hat trick in the contest.

If patterns are to be followed, Sloan’s senior year will be out-of-this-world. During his freshman year, he netted three goals while hooking up with his teammates for 12 assists.

In his second varsity season he made a huge leap, dropping in 21 goals and recording 18 assists. Now in his junior year, Sloan is already beyond last season, and aiming to capitalize on his 26 goals and 21 assists.

When Sloan isn’t terrorizing opponents on the lacrosse field, he’s playing quarterback and safety for the Wolfpack football team.

Looking at the record books, Sloan has a chance to notch his name in Central history forever.

Sloan now has a total of 50 goals. The all-time leader is Evan Guarini, who graduated in 2008, and had 128 career scores.

The all-time assist leader goes way back to Dave Janke, a 1982 graduate, who ended his career with 86. Sloan has a great shot at beating that figure, sitting with 51 assists and more than a season to go.
