Fall is officially here in Long Valley, and there's no shortage of ways to make the most of it. From festivals and farmers markets to pumpkin patches, live music and other seasonal fun, October brings plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy what's happening close to home.
Here are some events and activities happening in and around Long Valley this October.

When: Saturday, Oct. 31, 1–3 p.m.; parade lineup and judging begin at 12 p.m.
Where: The Gazebo, Main and West Moore Streets, Hackettstown, NJ
Head to downtown Hackettstown on Halloween for the 13th Annual Halloween Downtown, featuring a costume contest, parade, trick-or-treating and other family activities. Parade lineup and costume judging begin at noon at Centenary University on West Moore Street, followed by the parade to The Gazebo at 1 p.m.; prizes will be awarded in several costume categories for children, families and pets. After the parade, kids can trick-or-treat at downtown businesses and visit nearby trunk-or-treat locations.
When: Sundays through Oct. 25, 9:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
Where: West End Farmers Market, 98 Main St., Hackettstown, NJ
Pick up fresh, locally produced food at the West End Farmers Market, held Sunday mornings through the end of its season on Oct. 25. The Hackettstown market supports local family farms and vendors, with offerings including fresh produce, eggs, meats, breads, baked goods and more. The market is held rain or shine behind Dollar General and Czig Meister Brewing Company.
When: Saturdays and Sundays throughout October, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Where: Ort Farms, 25 Bartley Road, Long Valley, NJ
Celebrate the season close to home during Fall Festival Weekends at Ort Farms, held every weekend throughout October. Fall activities include apple and pumpkin picking, hayrides, a 5-acre corn maze, farm animals, kids' play areas and other attractions, with food trucks, live music and seasonal treats adding to the festivities. Full-farm admission applies during festival weekends; visitors can check the farm's website for tickets and details on individual weekend activities.
When: Wednesdays through Mondays, through Nov. 1; 9 a.m.–5:30 p.m. (closes 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 1)
Where: Riamede Farm, 122 Oakdale Road, Chester, NJ
Down the road in Chester, Riamede Farm's Fall Festival offers apple and pumpkin picking, hay wagon rides, a corn trail, seasonal treats, lawn games and plenty of fall photo opportunities. Weekends bring additional activities, including live music, farm animals, an apple slingshot and concessions, with the lineup changing from week to week. Admission is ticketed for ages 3 and older; produce and select activities cost extra.
When: Friday, Oct. 23, 1–9 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 24, 11 a.m.–9 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m.–7 p.m.
Where: Rockaway Townsquare, 301 Mount Hope Ave., Rockaway, NJ
A short drive from Long Valley, FoodeesFest will bring a weekend of food and shopping to Rockaway Townsquare. The family-friendly festival features more than 40 food vendors along with dozens of crafters and artisans, with free on-site parking available. Attendees can register for free tickets in advance, though registration is not required to partake in the fun.
