Committee Approves Wine-Tasting, Sales at Upcoming Green Festival

After brief research delay, Committee OKs vendor.

Washington Township’s Committee has approved the request of Unionville Winery to attend the August 17 Green Festival.

The decision, made at last week’s committee meeting, allows the vendor to be present at the upcoming festival held at Rock Spring Park on East Springtown Road.

Based out of Ringoes, New Jersey, the winery petitioned the town to gain approval for distributing wine samples and selling its products.

After an earlier July 10 Committee workshop meeting, research had been compiled regarding ordinances that may be in place that could hamper the vendor’s ability to serve alcohol in a public park.

The committee then postponed the approval of the issue until the next week’s regular meeting, where the vendor was subsequently confirmed.

“What the committee found, is that an ordinance exists that says if the committee agrees (to allow the vendor), then it can hold, and alcohol can be served in a park,” said Township Clerk Nina DiGregorio. “And the committee agreed to allow the Unionville Winery to have wine testing (on site) and sell its product.”

“It is under the category of an agricultural business,” said Committeeman Tracy Tobin. “And the Green Team does not object to Unionville Winery’s participation in the Green Festival.”

According to DiGregorio, everything on the municipality’s end is now complete, and the only further step the winery must take is to receive a wine festival permit from the ABC Licensing Bureau.

DiGregorio was unsure of the status on Unionville’s ABC License, as that is a division of the state government.
