Crossing the Country: Long Valley Runners Take On National Competition

Lakeland team part of 4,000 athlete event at national track championships in South Carolina.

Seven of Long Valley’s best cross country runners tested their mettle recently, taking on the finest athletes in America.

Members of the Lakeland cross country team headed down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina recently for the United States Track and Field Cross Country Championships, which saw more than 4,000 athletes between the ages of seven and 19.

To get to that point, the team swept each age group in the New Jersey meets and Region 2 meets, held in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

The team saw three of its members place in the top 25, including Connor Herraiz from Roxbury, Danya Spoor from Harding Township, and Aiden Nevisitih of Madison. The team had a total of 40 athletes participate in the championship.

The team is coached by Victor Vuskalhns and Kevin Daly, both of Long Valley, and Franco Herraiz of Roxbury. Other towns represented by athletes included Randolph, Roxbury, Mendham, and Harding Township.
