Cyber Harassment, DWI Charges: Long Valley Police Blotter

Police said three township teenagers were charged in connection with harassing another teenager on social media.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — In recent weeks, Long Valley has seen three DWI arrests, a cyber harassment case, and the filing of a false police report. The following information was compiled from Washington Township police department records.

On July 21, the Washington Township Detective Bureau charged three township juveniles with fourth-degree cyber harassment. The three teenagers were charged in connection with an incident involving social media and text message harassment of another adolescent. All three teens have been issued a summons and given a court date in Morris County Superior Court.

On July 30, a Washington Township Patrol Officer conducted a traffic stop on US Route 46 near Winding Hill Drive. During the vehicle stop, the driver, a male from Wayne, was found to be driving while intoxicated and was arrested. The driver was then released without incident pending a court hearing.

On July 31, a Washington Township Patrol Officer conducted a traffic stop on East Avenue, when he found the driver, a male from Carlisle, PA, was found to be driving while intoxicated and was arrested. The driver was then released without incident pending a court hearing.

On Aug. 1, the Washington Township Detective Bureau charged a Great Meadows man with filing a false police report, a fourth-degree crime. On July 27, the suspect allegedly told police that a bank teller had stolen his money after he made a deposit in Washington Township. Members of the police department were able to confirm that the deposit never occurred and that the suspect had filed a false report through follow-ups and interviews. A summons was issued to the Great Meadows man, and he was given a court date in Morris County Superior Court.

On Aug. 8, a Washington Township Patrol Officer observed a traffic violation and stopped a vehicle on Route 46 West. Following further investigation, the Mansfield driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated while under the legal drinking age. The driver was taken back to police headquarters, where he was processed and given a court date in Washington Township Municipal Court.
