First Day of School Jitters Spur Children's Book for Local Author
Long Valley's Kathy Lampert has her children's story being sold in Mendham Books and recently held a signing at the Sweet Spot Bake Shoppe.
Sophie Lampert, like millions of other kids around the country on their first day of school, was a little anxious before heading into class.
Her mom, Kathy, knew all about those jitters, having traveled to seven different countries as a child and attending eight different schools.
Those experiences combined and gave Kathy Lampert, of Long Valley, a great idea to help other children calm their fears of starting school, resulting in the children’s book “Sophie’s New School.”

Lampert spent the afternoon at the Sweet Spot Bake Shoppe in Chester this past Sunday, reading the story to a group of youngsters followed by a cupcake party. Lampert launched her book at Mendham Books in August, and has done signing events at Depasquale Spa in Morris Plains, readings in preschools and at the Chester and Washington Township libraries.
“Sophie’s New School” is available for sale on amazon.com, at Mendham Books, the Learning Express in Denville, and 5 Diva Girls in Chester.

Sunday’s event at the Chester cupcake store was Lampert’s third there, two of which have sold out in the business’s new party room.
Lampert will next appear at the Mommy and Me Event called “Imagine That” in Florham Park on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lampert said she is scheduled to release two more children’s books – one available before Christmas and the second will be released just before back to school next year.
